HEAT THERAPY. THE BEAUTY BATH THAT DEEP CLEANS,
DETOXIFIES, SOOTHES, SMOOTHS AND REVITALISES - WHILE YOU
LIE BACK AND RELAX.
Heat
therapy is one of the oldest, simplest and best ways to
deep-cleanse the body of harmful toxic waste products. The
remarkable hygienic and healing benefits of controlled heat-generating
sweat cures - steam baths, hot stones and heated sand-packs
come down to us from the ancient civilisations of Egypt,
Imperial Rome, Greece, the Oriental and Turkish Empires,
the Nordic Cultures and the American Indian traditions.
PEPS
UP CIRCULATION
Most renowned of plant-based diaphoretics (heat producing
substances) is undoubtedly mustard of the family Cruciferae.
Yes, the very same seed which is mentioned in the New Testament
as a symbol of faith, and also one of the forms of treatment
used by Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. When
mustard is mixed with water, a chemical reaction takes place
between two of the constituents, an enzyme called myrosin
and a glucoside. This reaction produces a sensation of heat.
Other popular diaphoretics are the mineral, magnesium sulphate
(Epsom Salts), cayenne and ginger. When added to a hot bath,
diaphoretics help to enhance the hydrotherapeutic benefits.
Circulation in the skin is stepped up to improve clarity
and tone. Regular heat baths can do much to re-awaken a
dull "lifeless" complexion to glowing new radiance.
METABOLIC
WASTES
The more quickly the blood circulates through the organs
of the body, the more quickly are the cells cleared of metabolic
wastes (deep cells, toxins, pathogenic bacteria) and replenished
with vital fresh substances. In this way the function of
all the organs of the body, especially the skin, is raised
to maximum efficiency. Physiologists say that up to ONE
THIRD of toxic body wastes can be cleared away through the
skin.
CONTROLLED
HEAT
Perspiring is one of the four natural methods of clearing
toxins from the body. The therapeutic heat bath offers a
multitude of well-being rewards: tones the nervous system
and glands, helps to dispense acid in the system, eases
painful muscles and joints, soothes the body after athletic
exertion, refreshes tired, aching feet, eases leg cramps,
promotes deep, restful sleep, counters cellulite build-up
and generally refreshes and calms the body and the mind.
HEALTH-BEAUTY
RITUAL
Since the benefits of regular heat baths are so impressive,
it adds to the pleasurable rewards to observe the basic
rules for successful heat baths:
-
To a hot bath (40°C-43°C, just above body heat)
add 2-3 tablespoons of mustard mixture.
-
Relax in the bath (topped up with hot water as required)
for 15-20 minutes.
-
Keep a bowl of ice cubes handy together with a face flannel
to wipe over the face from time to time. A glass or two
of chilled water may also be sipped.
-
If cellulite is a problem, thoroughly brush affected areas
with a dry body brush before getting into a bath.
-
Do not use soap (or detergent of any kind) during or after
the heat bath as it prevents the cholesterol wastes from
coming through the pores.
-
If any discomfort of body or mind is experienced, get
out of the bath and try again some other time.
-
Best results are achieved when one's approach to heat
baths is gradual. As tolerance builds up, temperatures
and durations may be adjusted to suit the individual.
-
To allow the skin to breathe freely after a deep-cleansing
heat bath, do not apply any body creams or lotions for
at least 8 hours.
TIRED,
ACHING FEET
For tired, aching feet and leg cramps, and as a preventative
measure against chilblains, add two tablespoons of mustard
mixture to a hot footbath. Soak feet for at least 10 minutes.
PROVISO
Unless approved by a physician, heat baths are not advised
for anyone with a fever or illness or respiratory or heart
condition, blood pressure problems or pregnancy. In all
other cases, it is important to allow 2 hours to lapse after
a meal before taking a heat bath. |
